In 2008 Roscoe Dames founded an annual Summer Music Camp and Mentoring Program to help student musicians in tandem with the Washington Jazz Arts Institute, Groovward Publishing, The JWB, 24th Music and other organizations. Through this initiative we have afforded over four hundred Bahamian music students the opportunity to attend either the five weeks summer camp in Washington, DC (2008 and 2009) or the Summer Music Camp and Mentoring Programs hosted here in The Bahamas (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). At the end of the program each year we host an evening of live entertainment featuring the students and instructors for the sponsors, partners, parents, guardians, friends and the general public. In 2013 and 2014 we were able to record, mix, master and release songs written and performed by the students in collaboration with Bahamian musician and audio engineer Megaton.
We have been able to provide this opportunity through our public/private partnership with the Ministry of Culture and various partners such as Cable Cares, Endowment for the Arts, UBS, BTC, RBC, Scotiabank, private donations and others.
